I was able to connect with Assistant Commissioner (AC) Anne Marie McMahon of An Garda Siochana (AGS). We met in Limerick at the Estuary House on Henry Street.

Assistant Commissioner McMahon oversees the Southern and Western Regions, which include Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford. AC McMahon has been a member of the Garda since 1986, served as Chief of Community Relations and Director of Training at the Garda College for 5 years.

In the works is a consolidation of regions, which will reduce the number of regions from 6 to 3, plus the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

There is an effort underway to transform the Garda, in Galway, County Mayo and Cork City. These are pilot areas under her command for Divisional Policing and functional policing oversight transformation. I wanted to talk with Commissioner McMahon about a number of items to help me more fully understand the changes taking place. She was very open and willing to offer her perspective on a wide-range of topics and issues.
