An Internship is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real world, working
environment at a WSU approved agency, company or institution that has agreed to accept students as interns, with a dedicated staff member on site who is responsible for you.
If you have reached Junior status, which constitutes completion of 60 or more credits, and you do not have an overloaded course schedule, you are welcome to review the department Internship booklet and speak with your Academic Adviser to determine what Internship may best enhance and strengthen your future career path.
Your Adviser will issue an Internship packet that you, your Adviser and your Internship
Agency Supervisor sign. You return the packet to us for final signatures and the Registrar then uploads your course. Internships generally comprise one semester, with 42 hours of internship work being equivalent to one (1) academic credit. Internships are usually structured as a three credit course requiring a total of 126 internship work hours, but you and your Adviser will determine the exact criteria prior to the start of the process.
Your Internship packet contains an Internship Policy that outlines your expected role in your internship success and the procedures that comprise the timeline and intended outcome of the experience.
Your Adviser will also issue a Syllabus along with the packet, just as you would receive in any other course, which details your obligations. Your Syllabus will detail your grading requirements, as well as all other requirements you must
meet in order to receive a passing grade for this Internship.
