Detective Superintendent Alan McGovern and Chief Superintendent Gerald Russell at STOC Headquarters in Dublin

I paid a visit to Dublin and met with leadership of the An Garda Siochana Special Weapons and Tactics Command. This unit oversees all Armed Units of the AGS.

Established in 2017, there are several units governed by STOC, including Emergency Response Unit (ERU), National Negotiator and within Dublin, the Armed Support Unit (ASU), and Close Protection Unit (CPU) for dignitary protection are governed by STOC.

STOC is beginning to seek Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credit for training. Training in the Use of Force and critical decision-making is a focus of STOC. UL Law will be responsible to help develop training modules and approaches, in the hope for university credit, in the future. I have been asked to help with this process in an advisory capacity and external reviewer.

STOC is headquartered in Dublin.
